Social Media Trends CMOs Need To Keep Their Eyes On
Social media is no longer a “niche” market and anyone interesting in promoting their brand, they need to know how to use it. According to Olensky (2018), there are five media trends that marketers need to pay special attention to. The first one is accepting that the majority of social media platforms will no longer be offering free promotion. In today’s social media market, “you pay to play” but its still affordable and should be taken advantage of now. Another trend is influencer marketing, which is here to stay. Influencer marketing uses influential people to promote your company through brand recognition. The third point mentioned is in regards television and billboards being an outdated source of marketing. This is still very much up for debate but the numbers confirm that a company’s ROI is much greater using social media then most other forms. Another trend is knowing how to utilize date to market to users. Tools like Microsoft Dynamics, Tableau and Domo are powerful resources to work with. Often brands capture data but they do not actually use the data to change anything. Finally, diversify your efforts across a variety of social platforms. The article suggests going all in, using one platform when your starting out but to branch out when you become more established. Know your core message and know how to promote it in accordance to the platform your using. This means that the content may vary but elements can overlap. Great tips and information for someone just starting to build brand recognition!
