The evolution of strategic management research
I read a really interesting article about the evolution of strategic management trends research, within this article provides several ways as to why and how the research has expanded and become better over time. “Strategic management is a relatively youthful discipline that has steadily matured over the past fifty years. The field has become consolidated over this period, while simultaneously expanding the range of topics analyzed and research methodologies used. Different theories and approaches, addressing different research topics, have been developed to explain the reasons underlying firm s’ competitive advantage and success.” () The trends have changed over the time, things such as topics that are researched, the methods that are used now versus what was used fifty years ago, increase in censensus, and last but not least the academic community being interested in the matter has grown also. Analyzes and evaluations were done and validated throughout this article because that was the focus of the article. They started with analyzing past trends versus current trends in strategic management research, “this involves identifying and analyzing the tension between the internal and external domains of strategic management research as well as the tension between the macro and micro levels of analysis. Following this, we present the works included in this monograph, which seek to describe and explore some of the research frontiers.” () The validity and reliability of the research was much better now than in the past because in the past due to so many factors like the path of the subject, the interest of the researcher, their background and approach to the subject there were major differences in the outcome of the research. Now there are staples for the research which is the metaphor of the pendulum which provides different factor both internal and external, micro, macro, while also containing information from the past while still being relevant to the present discoveries about the research in total.
