Leadership versus management strategic decision making
While leadership and management are one and the same, can management strategic decision or leadership decision making exist without the other because management strategic decision making, and leadership decision making are not able to exist without the other and you need one to help with the other. Leadership and management both go hand in hand and are sometimes used together to make decisions. If leaders and management are not on the same page with decision making, then this can cause a poor decision to be placed and create a poor outcome for the company.
The differences between the two
While leadership and management decision making seem the same, they are also different. A manager is the one in charge of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. It can be said that all managers are leaders as well, however this is not the case. They are only seen as leaders if they can communicate, motivate, inspire, and guide and encourage their employees, on top of the managers responsibilities.
The main difference is that leaders don’t occupy a management position. “In other words, the leader doesn’t have to be an authority figure in the organization” (Monnappa, 2018). A leader isn’t expected to do the same tasks that the managers must do, they personally focus their minds in the tasks or projects at hand and shows a great deal of passion for their work. Managers can live out the vision, to direct employees, process management and are people focused. Leaders on the other hand knows what their vision is, has honesty, integrity, they inspire others, have good communication skills, and the ability to adapt to change or change in general.
Management decision making is used to set long-term goals and objectives. It is used to help see where the company is going. Leadership decision making is used for employees or to get work done, such as planning for large financial purchases, or when there is a crisis. Leader decision making is used to gather teams and request feedback and insight. Now the question of can they exist without the other, arises.
Leadership and management decision making are one and the same, they go hand in hand. Without a leadership decision making on a vision, a management strategic decision on how to execute the vision can not be made or agreed upon. Leadership decision making creates creativity, and new insights into leadership and management activities. Leadership helps to inspire or motivate a group or team to accomplish a goal, that has been set by management. Leadership decision making helps everyone to understand and agree on what tasks needs to be completed and how to complete it successfully. Leadership decision making, and management strategic decision making can not exist without the other. Management decision making sets the decision in motion, while leadership decision making encourages and motivates workers to accomplish that decision successfully.
